You only take two things to your theory exam: a valid ID and your booking number. Everything else goes into a locker. Here you read what happens that morning, from the check-in kiosk to your result.
Before you go: your booking
You book your theory exam yourself in Mijn CBR with your DigiD. How that works is explained in Booking your theory exam with the CBR.
If you take theory lessons at a theory centre, that centre can also book the exam for you once you authorise it in Mijn CBR. Rijschool Aysem does not give theory lessons and does not book theory exams.
Which ID is valid?
It has to be the original document, and the details on it must match your registration in the Basisregistratie Personen at your municipality. Which document you bring depends on your nationality.
What is your nationality?
You have Dutch nationality
Bring a valid Dutch passport, a valid Dutch identity card or a Dutch driving licence. For the driving licence, the validity period is allowed to have expired.
You're from the EU, the EEA or Switzerland
A valid passport or identity card from those countries works, and so does a valid Dutch residence document or a Dutch driving licence.
You have another nationality
Bring a valid Dutch residence document, or your foreign passport with a valid residence sticker or Article 9 letter. A Dutch travel document for refugees or foreign nationals also works.
The morning of your exam
From your front door to your result: click through the six steps with the buttons.
-
A quarter of an hour early
Make sure you're at the exam centre a quarter of an hour before your exam.
-
Check in at the kiosk
At the check-in kiosk in the reception area you type in your booking number and check your details. That number is in the e-mail or letter from the CBR.
-
Belongings in the locker
Your coat, phone, watch and bag go into a locker, free of charge. Personal items and aids such as a calculator or study material may not come in.
-
Check at the door
Before you enter the room, a security officer checks you with a hand scanner. Clothing that covers your head is only allowed for a religious or medical reason; face-covering clothing is not allowed.
-
52 questions on a touchscreen
You get 50 exam questions and 2 test questions that don't count. You have 30 minutes, or 45 minutes if your exam is with extra time or individually supervised. You pass with at least 44 of the 50 questions right.
-
Your result
Straight after you finish, your screen tells you whether you passed. Within a day you also get the result by e-mail, often within fifteen minutes.
If things go differently
You're late
Still report at the check-in kiosk. If there's still space that day, you may sit the exam at a new time. If there's no space or you can't make that time, your exam doesn't go ahead and you get no money back: you then book and pay for a new exam.
You only have a copy or an emergency passport
Then you can't sit the exam. A copy, an emergency passport or a laissez passer is not accepted: it has to be the original, valid document.
You want to see your result again later
You don't have to keep anything on paper. You'll find your result form in Mijn CBR under Resultaten, at Mijn examens en toetsen. Your driving school needs that valid theory result to be able to book your practical exam.
